I'm just back from 48 hours away from the parish.  This week I drove to Elkins and visited my parents.  I hadn't been to thier house since before Christmas, though we have seen each other a few times at my sister's house--that is where the grandkids are!  Elkins is about 140 miles south-east of here, on the other side of the mountains.  The trip on Route 18 to Route 50 is lovely and not as winding as taking Routes 7 and 20.

While in Elkins, I also visited the new pastor, Fr Don Higgs.  We've known each other since high school.  He let me celebrate the Monday morning Mass for a priest-friend's mother who died last week.  To round out the day, I washed my car.   After sleeping in this (Tuesday morning, I watched The Price is Right with my mom and drove back to check on happenings at the parish and to get ready for this evening's Mass and then RCIA.

It's not very exciting, but it was pleasant and restful.  And that's exactly what I needed.
